प्रत्येक माह में आने वाली शुक्ल पक्ष एवं कृष्ण पक्ष की चतुर्थी तिथि को गणेश चतुर्थी के रूप में मनाया जाता है, लेकिन भाद्रपद माह में भगवान श्री गणेश के जन्म को चतुर्थी तिथि से संबंधित माना गया है। साथ ही इसे महाभारत ग्रंथ की उत्पति के साथ भी जोड़ा गया, जिसे श्री वेद व्यास जी भगवान श्री गणेश जी की सहायता से ही पूर्ण कर पाए थे। इसलिए इस समय पर आने वाली चतुर्थी का विशेष महत्व देखने को मिलता है।
