According to Vedic Astrology, Rahu and Ketu are considered as shadow planets. Rahu and Ketu produce intense karmic effects in the horoscope of any person. According to Vedic stories, Rahu and Ketu originated during the churning of the ocean. These two are two parts of the same demon. During the churning of the ocean, a demon sitting in the row of demons changed his location, and he sat in the god’s row. When nectar appeared, he drank nectar by deceiving Lord Vishnu, who was in the form of Mohini. As soon as Lord Vishnu knew about this, he beheaded the demon with his Sudarshan Chakra. After this incident, the head part of that demon was called Rahu, and the torso part was called Ketu. After this incident, ketu is now known as the peace-giving planet.
To pacify any planet, it is very important to understand the nature and energy of that planet. Ketu is a fire element planet, and it is a dry planet. Ketu is the planet of lack of interest, renunciation, supernatural powers, religion, philosophy, solitude, yoga, astrology, tantra-mantra, self-knowledge, salvation, and spirituality; hence this planet is not appreciated for worldly desires. This is the reason why Ketu is considered bad and harmful for worldly pleasure. Ketu destroys the natural significations and eclipses the planet with which it makes conjunction or casts an aspect too. It is considered exalted in Sagittarius and debilitated in Gemini Horoscope. According to different scholars, Scorpio and Taurus Horoscope are considered to be their exaltation and debilitation signs, respectively.
Rahu depicts the sins committed by any person, and then Ketu hints at the ways of cancellation or liberation from those sins. Thus these two planets try to create a balance in the universal cycle. Rahu is a worldly illusion and gives worldly prosperity, while Ketu gives an aversion to worldly matters. All the major events in a person’s life are related to the houses held by Rahu-Ketu. Rahu is the disciple of Venus and Ketu is the disciple of Jupiter. Ketu being as spiritual as the planet Jupiter gets exalted in Sagittarius. Rahu has special enmity with the Sun and Ketu with the Moon. Aquarius and Pisces are considered to be the mooltrikona signs of Ketu. It has been experienced that sometimes Ketu becomes so painful for worldly matters that the person does not easily forget the bitter experience related to that event.
It is a planet that has a fire element. It is as energetic and explosive as Mars; hence it also causes injuries, accidents, wounds, surgeries, and complex diseases. It also represents sadhus, sannyasis (saints), and spiritual masters. If the position of Ketu is not good in your birth chart and it is giving you an inauspicious effect, then you can worship Lord Ganesha regularly and chant the mantra Om Ganapataye Namah for 108 times. This will appease Ketu. Apart from this, on Tuesday, you can offer laddoos (modak) made of black and white sesame seeds to Ganesh Ji in any Ganesh temple. Reciting Shri Sankatnashan Ganesh Stotra 7 or 11 times daily or on Tuesdays, one gets freedom from the ill effects of Ketu. Rahu and Ketu have been called the caretakers of the poor and the helpless, so as far as possible, serve and donate to blind, poor, and helpless people on Tuesday.
Since Ketu represents sadhus, sages, and spiritual masters, feeding or serving food to any spiritual person daily or on Tuesday pacifies Ketu. Apart from this, you can also chant a rosary (108 times) of these mantras of Ketu planet (Om ken ketve Namah or om sraam sreem sraum sah ketve Namah) daily or on Tuesday night. Apart from this, serving dogs daily or on Tuesdays also gives freedom from the ill effects of the planet Ketu. It is also considered auspicious to donate blankets, umbrellas, iron, urad, warm clothes, musk, garlic, etc., to get rid of Ketu dosha.
