In some places, it is celebrated on the time of Chaturdashi of Kartik month, while in other places on the new moon day of Margashirsha month. The birth anniversary of Hanuman has also been associated with the month of Vaishakh in some places. Devotees give importance to some other months also as the birth anniversary of Hanumanji. But according to the descriptions in the Ramayana and other texts and beliefs, the birth anniversary of Lord Hanuman is considered to be associated with the months of Kartik, Chaitra, Margashirsha, Vaishakh, etc., depending upon region to region. This explains the existence of various cultures in our society.

Significance of Kartik Chaturdashi as Hanuman Jayanti

According to Maharishi Valmiki’s evidence, usually in northern India, people celebrate Hanuman Jayanti on Krishna Paksha Chaturdashi in the month of Kartika. As per the legends, Lord Shiva was born in the manifestation of lord Hanuman to Maa Anjana. Furthermore, he becomes the assistant and ultimate devotee of Shri Ramji as an incarnation of Shri Vishnu. Lord Hanuman acts as a guide and best helper for Shri Ram Ji in getting Ravana slaughtered and Sita meeting. Hanuman birth anniversary is celebrated on the day of Nishith Kaal Vyapini Kartik Krishna Chaturdashi. Taking holy baths, making donations, and doing other religious works on this day has special significance. On the day of Chaturdashi tithi, devotees wake up early in the morning and also keep fast resolutions to get the blessings of Lord Hanuman. To get his blessings, devotees offer jasmine oil and vermilion to Hanuman Ji on this day.

How to worship Hanumanji on hanuman Jayanti in an effective way?

Lord Hanuman is one of the most revered deities in Kalyuga. The worship of Lord Hanuman is preceded by observing purity as he followed the path of celibacy. The devotee must fast, perform puja, and keep strict celibacy simultaneously. On this auspicious day, bathing in Ganga is of great significance. Then on a chowki, covered with a piece of fresh yellow cloth, place the idol or picture of Shri Ram and Sita along with Hanuman. Given below are some points that should be followed on Hanuman Jayanti. 

  1. Fasting should be observed throughout the day as a vow of worship before God.
  2. Immediately following the worship of Shri Ram and Goddess Sita, Hanuman should be worshipped.
  3. The God idols should be bathed with water and Panchamrit during their worship.
  4. It is customary to offer red sandalwood, Akshat, Molly, flowers, incense lamps, clothes, fruits, betel, and so on.
  5. In the next step, you should recite Sundarkand or Hanuman Chalisa.
  6. It is customary to offer prasad after the aarti.
  7. A fasting worship of Hanuman Jayanti will resolve all kinds of defects and troubles. There are worship of fasting end physical and mental illnesses and financial problems.
Different Popular Myths about Hanuman Jayanti

It is a law in Karnataka that the Shukla Paksha Trayodashi date of Margashirsha month be celebrated as Hanuman Jayanti. It is also a day of fasting for all devotees.
